Center (NWCTC) prepares students for exciting careers in an actual salon environment.
Cosmetology students practice the art and science of improving beauty through the care and
treatment of skin, hair and nails. Students completing this program are well-prepared entry level
Cosmetologists with excellent employment prospects.
The Cosmetology program is regulated by the State Board of Cosmetology. To be eligible to take
the licensing exam, students must complete 1250 hours of instruction. High school students in 1oth,
11th, and 12th grade have the opportunity to attend the program part-time, all while completing their
academic requirements to graduate high school.
The Cosmetology Industry is an ever changing industry. Client communication, establishing and
maintaining interpersonal relationships, dependability and attention to detail are all qualities a
Cosmetologist practices each day working in the salon environment.

Fact Check

· About 44 percent of Cosmetology workers are self-employed; many also work flexible schedules. All States require cosmetologists to be licensed.

· Personal appearance workers will grow by 20 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

· Continued growth in the number of full-service spas and nail salons will also generate a 19 percent growth in job opportunities for manicurists and pedicurists.

· Estheticians and other skill care specialists will see large gains in employment, almost 38 percent, primarily due to the popularity of skin treatments for relaxation and medical well-being.
