Computer Networking & Cybersecurity/Cloud Program Overview

The Computer Networking & Cybersecurity/Cloud Program at Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center (NWCTC) prepares students for high-demand careers in the ever-evolving field of information technology. This program equips students with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to install, configure, secure, and maintain computer systems, networks, and cloud environments.

Students begin with the fundamentals of computer hardware, operating systems, and troubleshooting in preparation for CompTIA A+ certification. As they advance, they gain experience building and managing physical and virtual networks, learning routing, switching, and network configuration while preparing for CompTIA Network+ certification. In the cybersecurity component, students explore threat detection, data protection, and risk management aligned with CompTIA Security+ objectives. The program also introduces cloud technologies, providing students with experience in virtualization and cloud-based infrastructure through the IT Cloud Academy.

Emphasis is placed on professionalism, ethical computing, and lifelong learning—skills that prepare students to adapt to new technologies and challenges in a fast-changing industry. Graduates of the program are well-prepared for entry-level positions such as IT support specialist, network technician, cybersecurity assistant, or cloud systems technician, and many continue into advanced certifications or postsecondary studies in information technology, cybersecurity, or computer science.

Student Expectations

Students enrolled in the Computer Networking & Cybersecurity/Cloud Program are expected to:
