Health Occupations
Program Overview
The Health Occupations Program at Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center (NWCTC) introduces students to the diverse and rewarding world of healthcare. Through classroom instruction, hands-on lab work, and real-world experiences, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to begin a career in the medical field or pursue further education in nursing or allied health professions.
Students study anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, and ethical standards while developing essential patient care and communication skills. Training emphasizes professionalism, safety, empathy, and teamwork—qualities that are vital for success in healthcare environments. Simulation activities and clinical experiences allow students to apply their learning in realistic settings while building confidence and competence.
Graduates of the Health Occupations Program are prepared for entry-level healthcare roles such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or patient care technician.
