Construction Trades

Program Overview

The Construction Trades Program at Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center (NWCTC) provides students with hands-on training and technical knowledge for success in the building industry.

Accredited by the Residential Construction Academy (RCA), the program introduces students to multiple skilled trades, including plumbing, electrical, masonry, and carpentry, while emphasizing safety, craftsmanship, and professionalism.

Students gain experience soldering and installing plumbing systems, wiring electrical circuits and service panels, laying brick and block, and constructing walls, floors, stairs, and roofs. Training focuses on blueprint reading, tool safety, material selection, and accurate measurement, giving students a strong understanding of each stage of the construction process. Through practical projects, students develop problem-solving, teamwork, and trade-specific skills essential to today’s construction workforce.

Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment or advanced training in specialized fields or apprenticeship programs. With versatile skills across the building trades, students are equipped for careers such as carpenter, mason, electrician’s helper, plumber’s apprentice, or general construction worker, forming a strong foundation for continued growth in the construction industry.
