Automotive Technology

Program Overview

The Automotive Technology Program at Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center (NWCTC) prepares students for careers in the automotive industry through hands-on training, technical instruction, and real-world experience.

Designed to mirror a professional service center, the program emphasizes diagnostic accuracy, technical skill development, and professional responsibility. Students learn to complete work orders, diagnose and repair vehicles, and communicate effectively with customers while upholding industry standards.

Training covers all major areas of vehicle service and repair, including engine performance, steering and suspension, brakes, electrical systems, drivetrains, computer diagnostics, and preventative maintenance. Students gain experience working on modern vehicles equipped with advanced electronic and computerized systems, building the confidence and precision needed to meet industry demands.

Students are encouraged to earn certifications such as Pennsylvania State Safety and Emissions Inspection and EPA 609 Refrigerant Handling. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions as technicians, service advisors, or parts specialists and may continue their education through apprenticeships, manufacturer training, or postsecondary automotive programs.
